you're alright, okay? is a solo exhibition of a new series of work by Michelle MacKinnon that explores the body as a site of home through the comfort of knit, questioning how we can become comfortable with things we find uncomfortable. I think through ‘knit skin,’ imagining a reality for softness with and dissociation from the body to exist. Attention grabbing fluorescent pink knit skin figures, with eerily protruding hair, nails, eyes, etc., pick, prod and examine themselves, but also just exist as beings. The textiles, sculptures, and drawings in the exhibition hope to open conversations within the community around anxiety and hypochondria, creating awareness and challenging stigmas through means of absurdity, humour and immersive detail.
