About This Event

'blanket' is a collection of works from nine artists who live and work on the west coast of Newfoundland and Labrador: Trudy-Jo Campbell, Jessie Donaldson, Marcia Huyer, Nancy Brubacher Jacobsen, Robyn Love, Michelle MacKinnon, Tessa May, Shawn O'Hagan and Kelsey Street. The exhibition consists of nine works - some large scale and each with an individual interpretation of the word blanket. Blanket can be a noun, adjective or verb. It can imply warmth, comfort and healing, or it can be suffocating, smothering and overwhelming. The works in the exhibition explore all the possible ways this word can be expressed using a variety of materials and processes including textiles, sculpture, installation, photography, paint, printmaking, wood, found objects and drawing. Presented together, the works on view offer a collective understanding of the interwoven complexity of this ordinary word: what it represents through familial and societal history, as well as in this moment in time.
