“Piece by Piece” reflects Jill’s process and also her own journey. The artist was first drawn to mosaics’ parallels with life—how they create a whole story or image from individual and often disparate parts. The process of using broken, separate pieces to create a piece of art greater than “something whole again” became even more deeply compelling and rewarding after the artist’s own encounter with serious illness. Ultimately, “Piece by Piece”—the work itself, and the work produced—is both therapeutic and inspiring. It reflects the eternal hope-giving truth that unimagined beauty can follow dissolution and emerge from challenge.
